How to choose an eco friendly wallpaper?

There is a lot of talk about sustainable decorating materials but most of it focuses on paint.

FSC stands for Forest Stewardship Council
FSC – three little letters but they mean BIG things for the planet we live in and the forests that grow there. FSC stands for Forest Stewardship Council. It means that the wallpaper comes from a forest that is well looked after. When they cut trees down, they replace them. They pay workers fairly to ensure communities and indigenous people are not taken advantage of. They track the full process from end to end to check no dodgy business is going on. Sounds fair right? Well it is. And that is why it is the only forest certification scheme endorsed by the major environment charities including WWF, Greenpeace and the Woodland Trust. You don’t get more credible than that.
PVC – another almighty three little letters.
These are not so good. You want to look out for PVC-FREE. Many mass-produced wallpapers on the market contain PVC, this has a tendency to leak Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). If inhaled this can cause problems such as irritation to the eyes and nose, asthma, respiratory problems and even liver disease. Not something you want in your home.
UL GREENGUARD Gold certified ink.
No more three letter acronyms this time. This is one to look out for because it proves that the prints meet the world's toughest test for low volatile organic compounds (VOC) emissions without restrictions. What the hell does this mean? Basically they are safe to use in indoor spaces. Perfect for areas where sensitive adults and children may spend a lot of time.
I hope this helps on your wallpaper hunt. I set up The Den Décor because I wanted to do my bit to help the planet. You can do yours too by making the choice of Eco friendly wallpaper.
Meet the maker:
IF NOT YOU, THEN WHO? IF NOT NOW THEN WHEN?
That’s the quote I read on the front of a Glastonbury tote bag that made me start making little changes. Eventually little changes turned into bigger changes and I set up a fully sustainable eco-friendly wallpaper business that only uses FSC certified wallpaper, prints with low volatile organic compounds (VOC) emission inks and we plant a tree for every order.
It doesn’t have to be big things, but if we all make little changes then big things could happen.
